Learning in public as a beginner
Notes on sharing unfinished work, asking for help early, and not waiting until I feel ready.
- Learning
- Web
I'm new to building websites, and that's exactly why I want to write about it. Beginners notice the confusing parts that experts have long forgotten.
What I've learned so far
- Small components are easier to understand than big ones.
- Reading the docs for your exact version saves hours.
- Shipping something simple beats planning something perfect.
A tiny snippet
This is the kind of thing that confused me at first: in Next.js 16, page params are a Promise, so you await them.
export default async function Page(props: PageProps<"/blog/[slug]">) {
const { slug } = await props.params;
return <h1>{slug}</h1>;
}More notes soon. If something here is wrong, the contact form at the bottom of the home page is the best way to tell me.
